Karsten is regularly cited as one of the 200 best advertising photographers on the planet. His work has appeared in prestigious publications like the annuals of Communication Arts, Lürzer’s Archive and Photo Graphis to name but a few.
Red Penguin supports a wider Cultural Aim
Working in close collaboration with art galleries in New York, Amsterdam, Batumi, Beijing and Barcelona, Red Penguin Art Gallery introduces Marbella's art lovers to a broad international spectrum of artistic talent. The gallery is owned and managed by Dutch art expert Loni Olfers, who is passionate about raising the cultural and artistic stakes in Marbella, turning the city into a high calibre destination for international culture tourism.
Red Penguin Art Gallery was involved in the Art Marbella Fair, which ran for the first time from 30th July to 3rd August this year.
"At Red Penguin Art Gallery we search the world and the web to tap into rising talent. We dig deeper and get fully acquainted with the Artist, their work and methods to make sure only top quality Art and design is on show in our gallery. We are looking for work that will stand the test of time, and gain in value," Loni enthuses.
Held at the Palacio de Ferias, Congresos y Exposiciones de Marbella in Avda. José Meliá, 2, in Marbella, a modern building near the historic city centre, close to the beach and promenade, Marbella Art Fair was arguably the most important event of contemporary art in Southern Europe; its success will have made it a must-visit event in the international cultural calendar, attracting collectors, tourists and artists in equal measure to the Costa del Sol resort.
Promoting Hispanic and Portuguese Art
Supported by the Town Council of Marbella, the fair was promoted by businessman Alejandro Zaia from Buenos Aires, who is the co-founder of fairs PINTA New York (2007) and PINTA London (2010). These organisations specialize in art from Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
Promoting this year's inaugural event, Alejandro Zaia said: "Marbella is one of the most relevant places of European Summer. It gathers a large number of European visitors, but also from places such as Russia and the Middle East, creating a unique opportunity to establish an international art fair with the high standards of quality that this city and its visitors deserve. We can help expand the frontiers of art collecting by incorporating new players within the system, and creating an environment where artists, curators, dealers and collectors communicate and share information on the latest artistic trends, and showcase the work of today’s leading artists."
Among these leading artists, is of course, Dirk Karsten, who may not hail from Portugal, Spain or South America, but represents just the high level of professionalism the art fair strives to showcase.
