Marbella to open world-class Water Park
Marbella's mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, is lending her support to the owners of the Hotel Don Miguel for the development of a top-notch water park. The project's location will be adjacent to the hotel itself. Marbella Leisureland Investments intends to start building works next year and open the water park in the summer of 2017.
Marbella Leisureland Investments is an organisation connected with the Libyan group that purchased the Hotel Don Miguel in 2012 with the plans to develop it as a luxurious 5-star hotel resort.
The water park will occupy a 62,000 square metre site and will be divided into eight different zones. There will be four kilometres of trails and footpaths and at least 28 family attractions. The company envisages the creation of 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.
"This is a unique project for Marbella and has been conceived with the objective of becoming iconic in global terms," said Ángeles Muñoz of this multi-million euro project.
At present, the 502-room hotel complex boasts nine tennis courts, three swimming pools, including a kiddies pool and kid's club, a driving range and practice putting green and a health club with a sauna, Jacuzzi, Turkish bath, beauty salon and gym. The hotel also features four bars and four restaurants, a hairdressers and a shop.
Costa del Sol Land attracts foreign and domestic Investment Money
This is not the only exciting project currently on the horizon. The Costa del Sol is receiving considerable attention form Spanish and foreign companies and landowners who are competing for the best land deals at the moment. Cranes and billboards are beginning to mushroom everywhere with the growing demand for plots of land. The best views always command the highest prices.
Companies like Marbella Leisureland Investment are fortunate in that they have already secured their plot of land. Although professionals in the property market state there is still plenty of land left, sought-after plots with mountain or sea views are getting rarer and this is beginning to have an effect on prices, which are slowly rising.
Pia Arrieta, an associate working for Diana Morales Properties, a market leader in Marbella's luxury property market, explained: "The landscape is changing again. In the last year and a half we’ve seen rising construction activity which is now translating into higher demand for land."
How much for a Marbella Plot?
Obviously, size and location play an important part in the pricing of a plot, which can vary from 1,500 to 2,000 euros per square metre in Marbella's Casablanca district, but may only be 90 euros in Monte Mayor.
In Guadalmina Baja buyers typically expect to pay around 800 euros per square metre, which Sierra Blanca land prices usually rise to about 1,300 euros per square metre.
Marbella's most exclusive districts, such as La Zagaleta for example, command the highest prices. Here a 12,000 square metre plot of land is listed at 10.5 million euros. In another luxury area of Marbella, in El Madroñal, a plot half that size will still command prices of 1.2 million euros. The Marbella Leisureland Investment group is therefore sitting on a hugely interesting plot that is quietly appreciating in value, even if the hotel's recent past has not been that profitable.
The new water park will be located 20 to 30 minute walking distance from Marbella centre, about 10 km distance from Puerto Banus and 52 km distance from Malaga Airport.
Great Location for a Water Park?
Former hotel guests have complained that the hilltop location for the Hotel Don Miguel was no good for children and older visitors. However, a convenient shuttle bus, currently running between the hours of 9.00 am and 5.00 pm at half hourly intervals should take the strain out of a visit to Hotel Don Miguel's new leisure facility.
